I'm looking for a way of reducing the number of punctures I am getting - currently 2 or 3 A WEEK!!! I have the standard "flack jacket" tyres on my Specialized Sirrus and it's getting beyond a joke.

That doesan't seem right. I have the same bike and got around 1.5K miles in Central London's rubbish/potholes with around 4 punctures on those tyres. I changed some puncture resitant (forget the brand) and have had 1 in the same number of miles. If you are getting that many, I would be checking that there's nothing hidden in the tyre or on the rim that's puncturing it.

I have another flat to fix before I go home tonight on the front and the rear definitely feels softer than when I left this morning, grrrr :cursing:
The standard tyres on a Sirrus are very poor at resisting punctures. A chap at work commutes from Crediton to near Middlemoor every day and had to deal with multiple punctures each week until he changed his tyres. Paselas, standard Marathons and Vittoria Randonneurs have all done good service for him reducing punctures to an infrequent occurrence.

I run Marathon Plusses and don't get punctures. They do slow the bike down, but for a reliable commuting bike they're unbeatable.

#Ivan Ardon (snigger) My commute is just over 5 miles each way from North Exeter to Matford (Marsh Barton) and I really cant see what I'm going over where I could be picking up so many punctures - I take care not to ride over anything obvious. Each time I repair I do check the tyres very carefully (inside and out) to see what had caused it but in all but one occasion I've found nothing.

#ianrauk - I admit I don't check after every ride perhaps I'll be a little more vigilant in future but take this morning for example - I got to work with a flat front. I had checked before I left this morning and the pressure was at 80psi as it was when I last pumped it a week ago so it must have been something I picked up on my way in. The rear I repaired over the weekend and again had 80psi in it this morning but it felt distinctly under that when I checked it at lunchtime...

I think for £29ish an end I'll get a pair of Marathon+ and have done with it.

Put it this way: I fitted Marathon+ tyres to my bike and have been puncture free for 2½ years and 10,000 miles.

I agree with the advice to go for Marathon Plus tyres.....I only run the standard Marathon's but have not had a puncture in over 3 years (I know I am pushing my luck in writing this!).....but have had to stop on my last 3 rides as one of my companions has punctured. The so called puncture resistant Specialized tyres as supplied on my friend's Sirrus Comp are dreadful!
You should be able to pick them up cheaper than Wiggle - about £25 on eBay...

I have marathon plus on my bike and the tread on that link is identical to mine, not sure which version I have, but (touch wood) I can't remember the last time I had a puncture, and pretty sure I have never punctured on these tyres.

Cursed myself, got a puncture today, took a nail out of the tyre that was a good inch long. Luckily I move my bike on a dinner time and spotted the flat then, rode nearly 17 miles this morning with no problems, oh and to make matters worse, my emergency pump broke in my hand.

I mentioned these to my brother (who is a mad-keen cyclist and commutes around 40 miles a day even though his work is only 8 miles away!) and he suggested Conti Contact Pros as an alternative.

Any thoughts?

Another puncture - two in two days. Different tyre before people start asking if I cleared the tyre on the first one. Just sods law, retired the front tyre due to amount of blue showing on it now.

I have had lots of good wear from Marathons in the past. I have just fitted a M+ to the rear of my Dahon folder, and it was a real so-and-so to put on, despite watching the youtube clips. I am now hoping that I do not ever get a puncture while out on the road, as it will be a struggle to fix it at the roadside with cold, wet fingers.

Go with the Marathon Plus Tour and get the 37-622, I run them on my hybrid and they are a great tyre, general purpose and not that slow.
