Looking at the little map on the Bike Events site, Haigh Hall has been replaced by Standish Golf Club, so looks like no down hill into the underworld this year.

They missed out Haigh Hall last year. I never experienced it, but colleagues tell me it was horrendous down in the 'underworld' the year before!

Think we'll risk it again this year.

Have to do it semi-officially as children aren't allowed to enter.

We pay and the kids tag along.

My 7 and 10 year olds did it on rubbish mountain bikes last year so hopefully we'll be a bit quicker on their islas this time.

Lytham was an absolute killer, people were falling off their bikes due to the relentless wind.

Not looking to break any records, we'll just be happy to get to the finish line.

I went through Haigh Hall today to see what all the fuss had been about. It was fine today with the sun shining and the ground being dry, but I can imagine it was a real hell hole when the ground was wet. Must have been like an ice rink under all the trees.

Anyway, got managed to get a bridge shot while I was at it.................

Haha, maybe do but broken ribs aren't located directly to the right of the cleat as mine are ;)

To add man points, I did complete the game of squash, and hobble around for a further day before swelling and a disturbing puple colour lead me to the xray clinic

You can ride on broken ribs (done it last year) but not a big toe. Bet your hobbling about too.

Good luck all on Sunday. If I ever decide to ride it I'll go out and back, and an early start to avoid the wobbly bobs.

I could do with a lieutenant like you to get me through those "hills"

I am confused - I know that it misses out Haigh Hall - but after looking at various routes on line it appears that we enter Blackpool from the east
rather than the south on the coast rode through St Anns

Does any one know

Where've you been looking, because I couldn't see the route anywhere? Well, apart from the useless crayon drawing on the bike event website...

The map is obviously rubbish, but it does mention Inskip, which is a couple of miles north of last year's route.

Then it went through Treales and Kirkham before hitting Freckleton and Lytham St Annes.

Obviously it may do the same this year too.

just enter MANCHESTER TO BLACKPOOL CYCLE ROUTE 2011 - their are a number of sites to chose from

I think the general route they publish is to allow them to tweak things come the day of the event. I've done it twice and the only difference was haigh hall, which was most recently avoided.

It comes through Kirkham to Freckleton and then up the coast/prom to Blackpool. It's very well signed and there are so many people doing it that you will not get lost.
