With regards to paying for the event, I've split the difference. I think 15-17 quid for a mostly unsupported ride is expensive. However half that is acceptable, so I pay for the Man-Blackpool run, and then ride the later Manchester 100 as a freebie.

My attitude entirely. I feel a bit sorry for those who are gullible enough to pay charlatans like Bike Events every time they go out with them. I only know this from my experience of bitter disappointment after actually paying these cowboys and receiving....well nothing really. Several charities who had been involved with them have expressed resentment to them and refuse to be involved with them again.

Well I was going to pay this year, but now I think of it I probably wont. I will definitely do the event though.

I'm up for having a go at any sub 3 hour attempts, but it seems like it will be very hard. It would have to be a fairly disciplined pace-line.

My mate fell off at Haigh Hall.

Fell foul of the sharp left hand bend at the bottom of the hill, and ran out of pavement, he quickly discovered that 23mm road tyres don't have much grip on wet, slimy leaves.....

He was OK however, unlike the guy a few minutes later, who apparantly ended up in hospital.

All in all, I didn't miss Haigh Hall last year, the re-routed course was much better.

Looking at the little map on the Bike Events site, Haigh Hall has been replaced by Standish Golf Club, so looks like no down hill into the underworld this year.

Do many of you guys ride there and back?

Me, IG88 and another poor mug are doing a there-and-back this year all being well. Planning on a reasonably early start and taking it steady.

We think it should be a nice steady 3 1/3 hours each way, with a nice lunch stop in the middle.

Heres hoping for better weather than last year, dont much fancy riding back in sideways rain.

My ride is off.

Did the manchester-chester all good, got me in the mood for this and the manchester 100mile in sept.

And now I've got and broken my big toe in two places playing squash, ruling me out of this event and potentially the 100 too . Plus no more commuting for a good while!

Hope everyone enjoys it!

Haha, maybe do but broken ribs aren't located directly to the right of the cleat as mine are ;)

To add man points, I did complete the game of squash, and hobble around for a further day before swelling and a disturbing puple colour lead me to the xray clinic
