Sorry I forgot the %, simple chain gauges typically come with two measures, 0.75% stretch and 1.0%. 0.75% if often mooted as time to replace the chain as cassette wear is imminent. 1% means that the chain will begin to wear the cog teeth at much greater rate than usual.
I've ordered a new chain, cassette and front and back derailleurs as I was sick of the performance. I'll have a closer look at the chain ring when I fit the rest, but I think it was ok the last time I cleaned the bike. I was suprised to learn it had stretched that far.
