Sorry, I still can't see it. I found this on Wikipedia though: The viewer must diverge their eyes in order to see a hidden three-dimensional image within the pattern... A vergence is the simultaneous movement of both eyes in opposite directions to obtain or maintain single binocular vision.
I couldn't do this during my eye test either.

The, er, nay-see-ers... How long do you try for? If it is for only 5 to 10 seconds and then you give up, thinking "nope, nowt there", then that probably explains it. The first time I succeeded took a minute or two of trying. Now I know how to do it, it takes more like 10 seconds.
