Ahem... some of us men do understand style, and like shopping for clothes and shoes. I'm quite happy to wear lumberjack shirts and jeans, but at the same time I don't get men who claim that they can't see what's beautiful about a Salvatore Ferragamo brogue boot in oxblood leather or who wouldn't get just a little excited by the prospect of a trip to the Paul Smith sale shop in Avery Row.

You is 'avin' a bubble, innit? Wot's wrong with steel toecap D.M. boots, black jeans, black T-shirt, black leather jacket, a skinhead and a swastika tattooed on yer forehead?

Furthermore, I do not understand why women want to go to parties in dresses with no sleeves, and/or in very short skirts, and wearing very high heeled shoes. Meanwhile the men wear comfy shoes, and are cosy in their shirt and trousers.

Well Mrs FF is going to our works 'do' in the little black sleeveless number we found on Friday, it fits her tall svelte 46 y/o figure beautifully, is just above the knee lengthwise and coupled with sesnsible height classic stilettos, very sheer hold-ups, and some killer underwear (or potentially lack of it) she looks (and tells me she also feels) a classy and elegant million dollars. What's more she totally deserves to look and feel that way and we're looking forward to a night to remember.

I am not tall and not svelte.

Just above the knee is an elegant length, and as you say, with sensible height shoes. What I was referring to was the extremely short skirts, that could be confused with a pelmet.

We leave very-short those to our teenagers, fortunately they're also slim and svelte and manage to look chic rather than tarty.
If I'd stopped long enough to think about I'd realise how blessed I am

What you describe as a pelmet is worn by what we call 'wildlife' when cycling in Oxford of a Friday or Saturday night...

Andy, some women, myself included, do not understand why having shoes in very concievable colour is essential.

Agree wholeheartedly. Where do you find warm dresses? Nowhere.
The number of times I've been outside freezing while wearing coat/hat/scarf/gloves/layers to see the Christmas Office Party groups walk past....

And I am even more at a loss than you to explain it, unless it is something to do with showing off figures to their best advantage?

One thing that current fashions do NOT do is to show off figures to best advantage!!!

You're getting there ...
A man needs one suit for weddings etc., maybe another one for funerals and if push really comes to shove, a dinner jacket. You just get everything else at Rohan or M &S....

I am dressed completely in M+S.... no problem with that! Standard size 34 [36 in winter for a while!] waist/33 leg , no hassle and comfortable. + [very big plus] when I went looking for a birthday present for my wife I asked a young assistant where they kept ladies shirts, she not only found something in the right colour to match what I'd been searching for but suggested additional things in the shop which went with it.... saved me loads of time and I'd probably would never have found them... Excellent service!

As for FM's excitement about shoes and suits, while I can appreciate fine tailoring, it's wasted on me!
