Hi, does anyone know if there is a cycle friendly routr from the City (EC3) to Upminster - ive done the to Barking, via the cycle path, does that continue to Upminster ?
No. CS finishes at what used to be Movers lane the cycle path goes up to ripple road ( lodge) after that the old A13 (A1306) is probablty the best route
From Upminster Station.
St Mary's Lane
Hacton Lane
Ravenscourt Grove
Sutton's Avenue
Abb's Cross Lane
Elm Park Ave
The Broadway
Rosewood Ave
Mungo Park Road
Simpson Road
Dagenham Road
Rainham Road South
Ballard's Road
Orchard Road
Marsh Green Road
Goresbrook Road
A13
Be careful of the A13 just after Lodge Lane as there are lots of entrances to industrial units and the lorries/vans will be coming up behind you. I stick to the road until I am past the last one before the bridge.
I am back to commuting next week, so if you want to meet tomorrow or Friday morning, I will be happy to buddy up as I need to check my speed and timings. No point in being late on the second day (public transport for the first day so that I can suss out cycle parking).
I start a new contract on Tuesday so will be doing Cranham to Canary Wharf, so only as far as Canning Town with you. Hence my need to check the route tomorrow.
I used to do Cranham to Bankside.
No, working at Stevenage now. 40 miles each way is far too far to cycle.
With the strike, you might find keeping to the main roads - Romford, Barking, Manor Park etc. quicker than going down to the A13 for CS3. Last time I did it during a strike, the traffic was almost stationary so filtering all the was was easy.
Thanks,Ill have a look at that route.I drove up on last strike, never doing that again.I cycled down to the start? of cs3 at the weekend to figure out where to join under the flyover.I may try to avoid the main roads on first commute.Im guessing tower bridge up to trafalgar square to be the busiest, guessing, haven't driven along embankment since works started there so its going to be fun.nervous fun
Thanks for reply.
You should have come up to London on Saturday, then you would have seen congestion. Only that was caused by cyclists.
There was a LCC ride from Gidea Park to the Freeride you could have joined
@Heigue'r I commute in from Outside Brentwood and cross the A127 on the Ardliegh road and go through Hornchurch, I dont take the most direct route to CS3 and only go as far as Canary wharf. I usually cross the A127 around 07:00 ish. If you have found a route to CS3 then maybe a waste of time meeting up, but if convernient I can show you my route which is straight forward,
Sounds great, ive started riding around Upminster/Hornchurch early on sunday mornings, there are cyclists everywhere, ill have to join a groupride soon but having a recent addition to the family, the only thing I can commit to is work at the moment, hopefully enjoy the ride in to work and make a habbit of it a couple of times a week.
