I did it in 2010, as has already been stated it is very congested, in fact in my opinion there are too many allowed to enter. We had to walk up most hills as it was too congested to ride. I found the ride to be a bit disappointing in the end. Maybe I had the wrong expectations though.

A good few thousand of the riders are non-registered.
What was you expecting may I ask?

I have only done the BHF L2B once. It's not my cup of tea either.

If you're a fast rider and can get away in the first group (6.00am at the latest), then it can be a lovely ride along many closed roads. Other than that, it will take a very long time, you will most likely walk up Turner's Hill and The Beacon. However, as others have said it's a rolling party with a jolly atmosphere. But do remember many of the riders are novices with little road sense, so you do need to have your wits about you.

Aim for a FNRttC - you won't regret it!

I think I expected the roads to be a little clearer and to be able to ride up the hills, Ditchling beacon was totally jammed. Glad I did it though as the atmosphere was good. I am trying Sportives this year as I never done one of those before.

We rode the whole way last year and we left at 8:30 but it did take a lot of balancing skills on the pedals and quite often the very loud shout of coming through on the right..... :0)

did it once about 5 years ago, a lot of rather dangerous riders, massive congestion at every vague excuse for a hill when hordes of people got off and pushed, using the entire width of the road

me and two other stalwarts got insulted for having the temerity to ask people to leave some space for people to actually ride up Ditchling

in short too many people and too many of them a danger to others, that's not of course to say you won't enjoy it but there's lots of other similar rides with far less riders crammed into it
