Nice design of lock but i don't understand why you would need to cut it more than once to be able to nick the bike.

I guess the only place 'one cut' could free up the bik would be to go right thru' the middle - you'd then have a hoop round the frame. Otherwise, you'd need to cut out a section of the 'bike end' hoop, which would mean two cuts (unless, I guess, you could make one, then bend the thing...but I think that would be quite a task). The key thing is that it has the strength of a U-bolt, but you can't get a car jack in (which is, I've been told, the usual thieving scumbag's approach).

Good luck... what's it locked to... could you just cut through that instead?

Ok, the good news is...it's still there! I didn't think it had been nobbled in order to be nicked at 4am, but you never know, so I was relieved to find it where I locked it.

The bad news is....it's still there! My efforts at liberation were no more successful than yesterday's. It didn't help that the 'substitute key' I found (rather too easily, which should have raised my suspicions) turned out to be not the right key at all, but a similar looking one that wasn't. In any case, I think the problem isn't with the key but with the lock. Something in there seems to be preventing the key going in fully, so it won't turn.

The other good news is, quite by chance I bumped into a bobby on a bike, who said that as long as I can prove it's mine, they'll be happy to come down with a pair of bolt cutters and do the liberating for me. Which is very good of them, and more than I expected TBH. So, I plan to have another look for that backup key, but then I think it's going to be a call to the local nick and hopefully at least get the thing freed.

If it's any help, on a camping trip once, I couldn't open my d-lock with regular key (damp night...it went slightly rusty ) and I put some 3 in 1 on it, left it to soak, and hey presto, it worked.

Have you tried tapping the lock with the key slot empty & facing down. I ask only because you said the key doesn't seem to go in the whole distance. Any plastic that you're aware of in the lock itself. If not heat with a lighter & repeat the tapping & see if anything falls out.
Has it been glued up?
