The Lakeview Cellars 13%, a merlot cab sauv & syrah blend, is described as 'big, bold and complex' on the back label. Big and bold maybe but not hugely complex to me. A touch too sweet and oaky for my taste, very north american but not a bad wine. Would have benefitted form decanting.
The Alvento 13.1% also did not appeal. However, very interesting - a Marquette and Baco Noir blend. Baco Noir is a hardy grape therefore useful in the climate its grown in. Marquette is new to me. Probably would have been better in summer and drunk as a beaujolais style wine.
The Noble Ridge 14% was superb - meritage is a north american term for a bordeaux blend, here merlot 72% and cab sauv 28%. Black fruit, smooth, well-integrated oak, long and complex. Bargain at £11.60 at auction, retail C$43 (£26).
First two from ontario, the Noble Ridge from BC.

Some inexpensive Spanish verdejo:

3 verdejos from the Rueda region in Spain all from the same vintage 2022. This is a wine I can generally recommend because of its versatility. It makes an an excellent apero and also works well with fish, seafood, chicken, pork (mostly), veal and most veggie options.
Baron Amarillo 13.5% - lacking flavour, weak, disappointing; from Aldi and would not buy at any price, the 'edicion limitada' is marketing meaninglessness;
Cuatro Rayas 13% - a half decent example, tastes like verdejo, not sure if I would buy again, depends on price;
Cantarranas 13% - good, fruity, a perfect representative version of the grape. Bought together as a job lot, case of 12 Spanish whites.

We are spending 3 weeks in BC (Squamish) in December meeting first Grandchild.

Very much looking forward to sampling a range of Canadian wines in our AirBnB.

Wow!
That is (must be?) below cost. Total tax (duty +vat) on this = £3.25, leaving a whopping 24p for profit, shipping, bottling and grape-grower.
Aldi must be wanting to shift it all very quickly.

I trust you bought as much as you can carry?!
Bought three bottles....wanted to try it first !
Thought I'd pop back for more yesterday....no such luck,sold out at all three local Aldi's 🤣

Aldi Cotes du Rhone....£3.49 !

Came home with a case of that today. It's not the nicest Wine of the Week I've tried, but it's still a good one, and at £3.49, it's an absolute bargain

check daily. We were sold out yesterday, I put out about thirty cases this morning. The offer ends on Sunday i guess.
Popped in this morning on my way to work.
It's cheap enough to offer my guests a glass over Xmas....not that I get more than two guests anyway 😁
