You pull them as high as required to take up the slack.

as high so you can tuck your shorts over them to hold them in place. then tuck your shoe covers over the bottom of them. there shouldn't be lots of norah batty wrinkles

next question /thread should be are my leg warmers the right size?

You should be able to pull the leg warmers all the way up until they rub against the pad of your shorts without issues. You didn't do something silly like have a non-flat seam running up the inside of your leg did you?

No! The seam was on the outside of the leg. Dread to think of the damage a seam would have caused!
I've got short legs - so am assuming the hold up strip was rubbing between my saddle and my legs. As my legs aren't leather they lost! I guess that if I lower them to just above the bib shorts hold up strip (to keep them up) then it won't be an issue.

Rubbing on the saddle? That's too high, you may have experienced leg warmer/pad interference. This is where the pad grabs the leg warmer & moves it about, a lot.

If I want leg warmers really high they go outside the shorts. I'll also use unpadded shorts over the top to make everything look okay. This does mean you have 3 layers over your thigh though so you need to keep your shorts on the thinner side. This is fine for me as I've found that padded shorts on 'bents cause abrasions & have a large selection of unpadded shorts.
