My son has a little gardening business that he does at weekends as he's still at school

He bought this petrol mower last year. £100 from Homebase. If is still going very well despite it doing about 5 lawns per weekend (so it's done at least 150 lawns so far) If you're in the market for a replacement I would certainly consider this. He has the petrol strimmer in the same range and that is equally as good

It isn't "powered push" so maybe a bit hard work for an old fella like you pubby?? Joking aside I use it for my lawns and it is no problem at all

Now, my nick name at home is Mr Bean............I am hopeless at DIY. BUT..............
I would be thinking.............
basic parts...........£100.00
other parts (once taken apart).........£20-30 ????
Time spent V's time you could be earning money/out on your bike ?
How long will it last after the repair ?
Do I NEED a petrol mower ?
Brand new PETROL mower.......£200-250 ?
Brand new electric mower £XX
If it was me............I would buy a new one.

You could use something like this if it isn't too bad with just a few holes. Bond the whole thing together and strengthen it. Should be available cheaply from a decent motorfactors. Clean it well first though.

Otherwise, go with the pop rivet and sheet metal repair. It doesn't require much skill, cut the metal to size and drill a few holes. You need tin snips, a 5mm drill bit, a drill and a pop riveter.

Hi All,

I've a Honda Izy lawnmower which is about 10 years old. It is very reliable and has worked well, but the metal 'deck' which covers the blades has corroded right through - rather like in this View attachment 351419 image that I found on the Internet, though not quite as bad.

I can either replace the deck which will cost about £100, or for similar money, I can buy a new electric mower. I'm not the best person at practical tasks - has anyone ever replaced the metal body on a Honda Izy ? If so, how difficult is it ?

Or I should just buy an electric mower ?

I have that exact same lawnmower, in better condition than that, but a much smaller lawn than I had when I bought it, so I don't use it any more, I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Why would you want that modern crap when you could have this?..........

If you're going down the repair with sheet metal route, use cardboard - the sort cereal and beercan boxes are made of - to make your template. It bends in the same way that the metal will bend.

keithmac....... you're right, I am chuffed to bits with it cos everything else works fine and it would have been a shame to skip it. I intended to cut the bolts but got distracted and it got left as it is.
It's probably not appropriate if you do a lot of mowing in the rain though.
So you have to keep making a new patch every now and again? Perfect excuse to keep buying beer.

Nothing I see there a bit of Duck Tape couldn't fix.
