As a slight aside, for language learning purposes the north of Germany is better than the south inasmuch as they speak relatively dialect free 'BBC' German as it were. It's not without its attractions either. Our local dialect is Badisch, and it still take a lot of mental effort to follow what is being said when the locals lapse into it. My daughter, whose German is now ahead of her Engish, can do quite a good send up of it!

Yeh, I know I really ought to get up north if I can, because I did end up picking up some weird southern dialects whilst I was there... especially in Baveria! (The first place I visited.)

My cousin is living in Germany this year, more in the north, near the Rhein I think, so hopefully I might get the chance to stay with her if I can fit it around my current holiday plans (basically = France, France, France!) Definitely intrigued about venturing up north. :cursing: I'd love to go to Berlin too, it looks fascinating, and my German friends all rate it highly.

You're right though, I should have mentioned that language-wise it's probably wiser to venture into northern Germany.

I'm off to Berlin on Thursday. It's the most fantastic city in the entire world. In my opinion of course! And Berliners speak with a nice, clear accent most of the time.

Apparently the 'ich' is like 'ikke'? I really want to go. One of my friends bought me a really cool tour-guide which opens out into a map. -heart beats- I love travelling! You'll have to tell me all about it, lucky you! (Well, I could go, but I am sacrificing Germany for France right now. There will come a point where I miss it too much and book flights though!)
