Can anyone recommend a German course that works but doesn't cost a fortune?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I used the linguaphone Spanish course some years ago and found it good if you stick with it.

there are groups on skype where you can go on to practice

otherwise try the rosetta stone software - not bad at all

Just had a look at the BBC German Course, it looks "sehr gut"!! I am currently learning Russian on a local county council adult learning course. That is "очень хороший" as well

Deutch ist super, und es ist nicht langweilig oder angstrengand. Ich habe Deutch fur vier Jahre gelernt und es ist sehr gut, aber bin ich nicht so gut.

You've done the same German course as the bloke who runs the local Döner Kebab place near me, haven't you?:biggrin::biggrin:

I studied German for five weeks in May 07 with the Goethe Institut in Berlin. It was an excellent course and the teaching was of high quality. Of course you're presumably not looking to do it in Germany but I imagine the quality will be similar wherever you do the course. I did find that the cost was pretty high, though (although I suppose you get what you pay for).

I'm currently studying German at University as a mature student (called something else these days, 'Open Learning Programme') and it seems that I could have studied there as a complete novice in German. You may find that a local college or Uni (if there is one in Bolton) also do German courses, although I struggled to do a course where I used to live in Kent as so few people apparently wanted to study German.
