Yes, I've got some really good trek shorts, so that is not the issue...tried the saddles in the shop, so obviously haven't ridden my bike with them, but then I'm also not willing to pay 30-60 quid for something that is uncomfortable even stationary... Like I said, my current saddle is not horrendous, but once I get over 50 miles, the tip does start digging in a bit....

If you want to try a saddle, you could always look to get a second hand one on ebay. At least then, if it doesn't work for you, you should obtain back the dosh you payed for it.

There really isn't a substitute for trying a saddle on a bike. A saddle that is initially uncomfortable might be better on an all day ride than one that is initially confortable. And it really is important to try it on your bike.

Sounds good - at least I would stay loyal to Bontrager  No sign of Kirstie tho!

Why would you want to remain 'loyal' to a large, American corporation?

Cause my bike is a trek, and it came with a bontrager saddle and various other bits, and I love it!!! (Don't care about large american corporations at this point, although I probably should - but then again, changing to a specialized for example would just support another large american corporation)

This thread is a typical example of how saddles are such a personal thing. I HATE Bontrager. I had one with my Trek, hated it so tried another (wanted to keep the Bontrager thing going), hated it so switched and had no complaints.

Yes, saddles are tricky, and darn' expensive to keep getting wrong. After trying a Spesh BG (comfy on my lady frill but killed my bum, sold on eBay) moved on to Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow (ditto, but sold to a friend, who loves it) and then tried a Terry Tri Gel - very similar in all respects to the Selle Italia but has slightly more gel (and is very comfy around the nose) and is perfect for me.

I can't recommend a saddle as that's somewhat a personal choice. However, for any ladies out there, I can offer to personally massage the painful areas....

Well that's kind, thanks Jasper! (I had a cat called Jasper when I was a teenager. He was the love of my life!)

PP I know Kirstie's told you this but for all other sorebottomed gals out there, it's a Bontrager Racelite...with thanks to Kirstie!

I need a new saddle too - mine kills in all places ;). It's a gel type, don't know the make. I love bouncy springy old-fashioned saddles, so I'm thinking of getting a Brooks, but not sure what type. I don't really care what it looks like - comfort is the most important thing!

Also, how do I know it will fit my bike? Or do I need a new upright thingy or something to make it fit? Sorry, don't have all the right terminology ....:smile:

Victoria - I live north of the river (and up a hill of course), you are welcome to come and try a Dawes standard issue saddle, a Specialized BG Windle XC, or a Terry Liberator X. Sorry I don't have a Brooks.

And if I can fit a saddle:ohmy: then anybody can... you just need an allen key.

I am a big fan of the specialized Jett saddle, all my bikes have one. I fine bontrager saddles the most uncomfortable things in the world! Some shops will let you buy and if it isn't comfy after a week replace, etc till you have the right one.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Yup, sorry...I fall very much into the latter category  - but thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Have you tried one? Don't knock it until you have.
