Ladies Saddle Recommendation???

Before you all start telling me, I do realise saddle choice is very personal, but some ideas would still be welcome.

Currently my mtb has got the original bontrager race men's saddle fitted, which is ok, but not great - on longer rides I find the slightly raised section at the front starts digging into my girly bits...don't like the tip sloping down either, so that's not a solution.

Got myself measured for one of those specialized bg ones over the weekend, but when I test-sat a couple of saddles in what was supposedly the right size, I found them totally uncomfortable (the guy in the shop admitted the fitting system was rather hit and miss).

I sort of think a ladies saddle, possibly with a cut out, might be the solution to my "pressing problem", as I suspect they are unlikely to have the raised section at the front.

However, the choice apart from specialized in the local shops is limited and the ones they do have look terribly wide like some granny armchair.

Any suggestions that won't break the bank, look narrow and won't look weird on an mtb???

No doubt someone will turn up with the ubiquitous Brooks recommendation - and that person is me!

My wife rides a Ridgeback hybrid so upright-ish and I bought her a B67s which is 'sprung' - and removed the cheap and nasty suspension seatpost. She is absolutely delighted with this set up. Sure the saddle is a bit heavier than some but she doesn't have suspension or a sprung seatpost so the overall package isn't too bad.

But for every one that loves a Brooks there's always someone that hates them.

I use one of the Specialized ones Windle something I think. The one I wanted didn't come in my width. I don't think its perfect but its better than a mans one. I still look at saddles and occasionally think there must be a better design out there. I've also got a Terry one (I would need to check the label) which is OK for short distances but not long - the sides of the cut out are too firm.

Mrs rich p has the same type on both her bikes because she likes it so much. I'll ask her what the make and model is later.

Punky - Specialized Ladies Dolce saddles are really comfortable (fitted on MTB). I've also got one of these which are also nice (fitted on road bike). It hasn't got the cut out bits but I haven't found that to be a problem.

Not sure if I want to answer that, but it is fortunately on the small side ;)

I recomend a small saddle in this case! ;)

I have the same one as Kirstie and it's a Bontrager. She knows the model because she's a proper cyclist. If she doesn't come along soon, i'll PM her. We both adore it, and do lots of touring on it...which bodes well for comfy bottoms.

Sounds good - at least I would stay loyal to Bontrager  No sign of Kirstie tho!

My partner has 3 Spesh saddles.

A basic ladies BG saddle, with a cut out but it's currently causing issues. She has a Dolce saddle that came on her Spesh Dolce, and although it was comfy it kept sliding back. Nothing we did would keep the b*gger in the right place, so it was swapped out for a Spesh Jet saddle.

She was worried that the sides of the cut out would be too hard with the latter, but she hasn't found this a problem at all.

Have you tried the Spesh saddles on your bike? And do you have a good set of cycling shorts? These can make all the difference.

Yes, I've got some really good trek shorts, so that is not the issue...tried the saddles in the shop, so obviously haven't ridden my bike with them, but then I'm also not willing to pay 30-60 quid for something that is uncomfortable even stationary... Like I said, my current saddle is not horrendous, but once I get over 50 miles, the tip does start digging in a bit....
