Sadly, I'd say he's right. I've had trouble with neighbours, including two assaults, around here in the past. The police do very little apart from having a word with them. Unless you have very clear CCTV the police won't take it further.

You and PaulSB are probably right but without reporting it there's no chance at all of anything happening. Of course the reporting alone is something, it's a record of the incident. You can't know how much or how little that snippet off intelligence might play into future events.

IMHO doing nothing is giving in completely. For a little bit of my time there's the ability to do something. I would do that for me. As much as an outcome because it's as much about me doing the right thing as me actually getting what might be considered a result. However I see the report as a result in itself.

ymmv.

This is correct, at the risk of straying OT & into the dark place territory unless they are reported then there is no ammunition for the Police to ask for more resources if the numbers of reports are falling so removing officers is working, that will be the Politicians views.

Yes @PaulSB you are correct we have lost 20,000 officers & TBH we probably need them back along with another 20,000 to as one Politician said "Take back the our streets" I don't want to live in a military junta but I do want to free safe to cycle up a what is supposed to be a middle class housing estate in safety.

For every crime that is not reported plays directly into the hands of the criminals & the Politicians, maybe they are more alike than we care to think.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Forgot to mention. My martial arts instructors all said carrying a weapon is asking for it to be used against you. Do you know how to use a tactical pen? How to stop someone defending against it and taking it off you? Do you know how to defend against it once you've lost it? How good a fighter are you? There's always someone better!

I've had some training with and against weapons from knives, sticks, staff to swords. Not sharp ones I might add as I never got close to black belt when training involves sharp knives!

Best advice my instructor gave ? If you can run

Bloody hell, just read this thread.

I hope the police can take action. Idiots like this can strike anywhere anytime, even close to home where it feels worse as you are more likely to see them again.

Carrying anything for self-defence is not advisable, nor is taking some sort of late-night revenge as it risks getting oneself prosecuted or escalating things with someone who is in a position to do you and yours a lot of harm.

Better to get a camera to get evidence, or at least a https://passpixi.com/ on prominent display, which may act as a deterrent if the shitgibbon notices it in the first place.

Just caught up with your news, @Phaeton.

That sounds an awful thing to happen especially so close to home. It was an unprovoked assault so I hope the police do have the resources to follow this up.

I find the drugs comments a bit weird, as nothing more than a massive assumption.

Coke yes but I wouldn't rule out roid rage having seen what some of the guys on my street are like. They can go 0 - taking doors off hinges really quickly.

There are some old folk in our midst. About 30 years ago, a lovely, sunny afternoon and whilst riding home I thought I'd stop at a pub for refreshment........ Bought a pint of lager shandy and a bag of salted peanuts. In the 'front garden' of the pub were several tables and only one over the far side occupied by 2 guys. I leant my bike against one and sat down to relax with my pint and nuts. Within a short time the Landlord came out and told me (not politely) that someone may want to use the table and I should move my bike. I apologised and moved it to the side wall of the pub. He came out a couple of minutes later, shouted and swore, picked up my bike and raise it up as if to throw it:wacko:. I said "that's an expensive bike, what on earth are you doing?" He put it down, ran to the table, poured my drink on the ground and took the peanuts and ran inside. This was understandably quite amusing to the onlookers at the other table. I went after him and by this time he was behind the bar, he shouted "here's your money, now get out" and threw some cash along the bar. I said "what about the nuts?" and some more followed, much to the amusement of folk inside the pub. He disappeared out the back...... I turned on every beer tap I could reach and left as the customers all gave me thumbs up.:laugh:

Ah the "traditional" pub landlord, quite a rare beast these days, but I do remember his kind.

Oh I do report assaults and threats against me. Yes, little will be done about them, but once reported it's down on their records, so the authorities can't say "it's the first we've heard about it"! The nasty old b..tard who when p.ssed, came at me about 2 years ago, calling me a 'slavering spaz' and other such niceties told his mate who then told me, that he knows if he comes at me again I'll simply phone 999 and he'll be getting ANOTHER visit!!
