The Clytha Arms.......I used to work there about 30 years ago, it used to be real busy before the dual carriageway opened. What's it like now?

I got there well after Sunday lunchtime (no hot food Sunday evenings), and it's renowned for its food so was quietish late afternoon, but I didn't get the impression it has problems - they are turning over six or seven real ales, a couple of continental guest beers and a couple of draught ciders, and the beer was well kept. Hot roast potatoes on the bar and cold game pie for a couple of quid. A trickle of contented-looking folk enjoying a couple of pints in the garden and a handful of regulars in the bar. I will be going back. A Cyclechat South Wales Sunday Pub Tour is brewing in my mind...

Excellent. I'm thinking an earlyish start to get a few miles/hills under our belts, and the from 11 onwards the ride gets flatter and slower (as we get more pints under our belts), and stays within reach of railway stations. Let me have any suggestions for Boozers That Shouldn't Be Missed, and we'll work around the essentials...

The ride was great fun and kindly Banjo didn't make me feel like a complete looser by leaving me for dead on the hills. May post a couple of video snippets soon  Cheers Banjo, we must do another ride again some time

I look forward to this but have to admit just a little trepidation.

Few hills before 11 am then I hope you meant the roads would be flat not the beer

Met Dave at aberdulais this morning and had a great day out.i take my hat off to him doing a hilly 115 km (70 mile) road ride on a mtb.

We flew up the Black Mountain north of Brymaman too busy chatting to notice the climbing.Descent into LlAngadog is great but the lower sections after you come off the mountain had tarmac with dodgy loose gravel on,the mountain road surface was excellent though.

I had never ridden the Heol Senni road before ,Steep is the over riding memory with scenic views coming a close second. From the peak of Heol Senni back to Aberdulais was a nice long downhill 20 odd kilometers to finish on.

Pleasure to meet you Dave. Hope we can do something similar again.

Thanks you very much indeed. Here is a short video edit of the Heol Senni climb. Sound sync has gone a little so it sounds as though I cut you off in mind sentence

Sounds all good, gentlemen. I love the Heol Senni road. Went over it in the other direction on Sunday. You seem to get such a massive descent into Brecon for a relatively painless climb. Which must mean it's tough in reverse.

Dave do you fancy the Gower Evening Ride on Friday? A leisurely affair, with beer...

theclaud - I would love to (beer aside - I no longer drink lol) but I will be either driving to or in Marshbrook for the CRC MTB Marathon. Will have to do the next one

I should also comment on the drivers that passed us. Apart from one toot of a horn everyone was very courteous and left plenty of space when passing (even on the A40). I take my hat helmet off to them

I hardly drink myself, but I feel I owe a pub stop or two to Banjo and Larders.

Good luck with the marathon.

Seriously jealous that I could not join you.
If it had been a weekend and I had a week or two notice I could have joined you.
Have to get time off work and organise trains etc.
