Yet if she'd locked it up odds are that some scumbag would have nicked it

Not sure if I have travelled through time or space but I am no longer in London in 2016. Someone just lent their quite nice Ridgeback against a bike stand and walked away. It has a ulock but she didn't use it.

And it was still there when she went back to it!

I used to happily lock my Ridgeback up anywhere and not worry until I read an article (on here?) with a bike thief that mentioned them as a brand that they target.

I evidently fell through a similar wormhole in Florence ( no, not the one that opened up by the Arno!) when I saw a raw titanium Brompton kerb-jammed outside a newsagents. Until then, I had long forgotten that in my youth kerb-jamming the pedal of a bike to park it was a fairly common practice. Nowadays some motorist would probably throw it at you for daring to take up a parking space . . .

Could it have been a tourer / audax bike which Ridgebacks are famed for? Most bike thieves tend to be non cyclists and view these as non desirable and less saleable.

MTBs is where it's at.

I think the 'Brand' name is enough for the feckers.

Wow, that is so lucky. I once locked a bike up at Liverpool street, it was only a cheap old Raleigh mountain bike, 5 mins later I came back and all that remained was a broken lock on the floor. You have to be so careful in London!

I think I've been through the same wormhole. I came out to my garage this morning and found the up and over door wide open to the street. I think I must have left it that way yesterday afternoon when I put the lawnmower away. Everything was as it should have been, all my bikes still there despite a Croydon postcode. What's going on?
