i am busy this weekend but i will get on it sometime next week. i was reluctant to start cutting the tube becuse the frame i perfectly good but only for someone of my dwarflike proportions and i didnt want to totally ruin it.
your method makes sense to me and i will not hold you resposable if i fails.

Now I'm down into the tube, I can see that I did a *terrible* job of sawing through the post. While I was all the way through at the top, the blade has barely scored it further down. Which is why it didn't work!

Not sure if it worked or not, but something the chap I bought my last bike off was in the middle of doing when I went round:

Drill holes on opposite sides of the seatpost and insert metal bar, one long enough to give you decent leverage. Twist.
