It's a bit of a fiddle getting clipped into SPD's for the first time......

I switched to SPDs (2 bolt MTB-stylee) as I found them easier to clip into than toeclips. But I am pondering a temporary return to toeclips because after my last two 200k rides I've had sore points on my feet where the cleats are. Mind you, I suppose I should expect to have sore contact points after 10-12 hours when that's the longest I do, I may just need to htfu. And I'd have to go back to SPDs for winter as I wouldn't get my lovely Northwave winter boots into toeclips.

I've never had a "clipless moment" but if you do, try to remember as you go down to keep your elbows in.

We've all had that moment.

We've all been there

No we haven't.
I know lots of cyclists who have never had a 'moment'

I didn't have the moment for years, and for a number of those years I had been commuting daily all year round using them without a problem. It came at the front of the queue at the big roundabout at the South end of Wandsworth Bridge when I was showing Mrs hatler the route into central London. The cleats were worn and one side just jammed. Giggles all round.

I nearly had a moment at the weekend. I _always_ unclip the left foot but riding up to a junction with my friend to turn right he unclipped his right foot and for some reason I copied him and did the same. Then I proceeded to try to put my left foot on the ground as usual :S Some frantic front wheel wiggling and yanking with my left foot and I was ok.

Only ever had one clipless moment but that was more to do with me kidding myself that i could still climb a steep hill on a 42x26 gear

I took to them like a duck to water, but I suspect that this may have been due to years of brain-training using ye olde toeclips. But thinking back, I never had a "clippy moment" with toeclips either. Even when actually falling off for other reasons I've always got my feet free.

Got fed up with toeclips wearing my trainers out.I've had two clipless moments. One in Maryland at a bus stop.Found the pedals and cleats were incompatible and the second time was in the middle of Leyton High Road during a match day.Still I've been using them for many years so that's not too bad.

Only clipless moments I have had in the 20 years of using them were all in one ride a couple of years ago. Peak district mud and sand, combined with worn cleats meant I had 5 in 1 ride. Last one twisted my wrist back and made the ride unpleasant. Other than that I have never had any issues.

Ok so only been out for a quick practice session in the car park for 10 mins, It seems there is a knack to getting into the clips more than getting out. Seems to require a lot of pressure to clip the rear of the cleat in. Unclipping seems easy in comparison, just have to remember to do it.

Is that standard?
Using spd M520 peddals and sh-51 cleats.
