Yes - simply place the cursor in cell B2 (or any cell under the row you wish to keep at the top) and click on Window - Freeze Panes. This puts a horizontal line above the row you are in, and also a vertical one to the left of the cell chosen - any scrolling then keeps stuff above and to the left of that line stationary.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does, thank you. I had the expression "frames" in my head instead of Panes.

I have my ECDL level 2, but it is one thing learning a subject to pass an exam and another to put it into practice in an office (while trying to help customers and visitors, etc etc.) My colleague is "self taught".

The course taught me how to build a fairly straight-forward spreadsheet or data base, but missed out the reasons why one or the other would be more appropriate.

That sounds like the ECDL! ;)

Useful to a certain extent, but if you actually want to *do* stuff you need to make Google your friend, and play lots!

Comes with practise - I used to use it every day, for absolutely everything (and I mean everything!) as I didn't know anything about databases or want to go near them... but my dependence on it has waned somewhat. ;)

I miss it, like an old friend.

"Freeze panes" is an example of why I find "help?" difficult to use. In the same way that if you cannot spell a word, it is not helpful to try to use a dictionary. If you do not remember it is called freeze panes, you cannot ask how to find it?

This is why we have set up a Practice one, to play about with, as you suggest. It is not a disaster if I/we get it wrong.

For each problem that we encounter and solve, I was going to do an old-fashioned index card. I find that the process of writing it down, helps to remember it. And also helps when you show someone else. After a few goes, I can usually remember which options are in each menu.
