I always fit the tyre around the valve 1st. A lot of the instructions I've read say save the valve area till last but I just can't seem to get a decent fit using this method!
'tis what I do also.

Im a heavy rider...I like to ride fast...I'm fed up with punctures at 110psi etc the tyre allows for psi up to 140psi ish I think, so I choose to use a higher psi...simples...

well dodge for some please note..ive used gators and only gators since i started cycling a year or 2.it works for me thats all imsaying nothing more
Odd each to their own, i cant say i have ever had a problem with them in all weathers in over 10,000 miles and i would buy them again when my current set wear out , so if you want to bin them via a post office ...Gatorskins are awful tyres and are marginally dangerous in the wet, I have a nearly new pair sat in my office that I refuse to use.
+1 to that also - better to spend an extra few seconds making sure than to have to change another punctured tube!Same here, I also then squeeze the tyre and check I can see the rim tape all the way around on both sides, adds a couple of minutes but you know you haven't pinched the tube by doing it.
AgreeI had a whole heap of punctures with the 4 seasons... Very happy with the Michelin Krylion Carbons I'm using at the moment. Definitely the best all season commuting tyre I've tried.
