I think I need to go this route, or at least give it a try.
Any recommendations on which brand to go for?

If you go into Boots, you should find the Wilkinson Sword Classic for about a fiver and it comes with 5 blades. It is a cheap plastic DE but it works well in practice and WS are decent brand of blades IMO. It's a good starter kit as you're not out too much money if you don't like it.

Edwin Jagger razors are highly rated and should be easily available online if you fancy something higher quality.

Otherwise, find a vintage Gillette razor at a car bootsale, Ebay or antique shop and give it a good clean.

In reality, there are hundreds of different brands of DE razors out there and everyone who uses one will swear by a particular type. I use a 1960s Gillette Tech mostly.

I've not shaved for about 5 days now to disguise the fact I'm growing a mo for Movember. The whole lot's coming off tomorrow - driving me mad!

Use traditional double edged safety razor. Blades cost pennies in the shop and even less online.
Maz, just don't ever move the razor diagonally or sideways on your skin! It'll stop bleeding eventually but you'll use a lot of toilet paper stemming the flow, which you'll forget has dried on until you arrive at work....

Yes indeed, never put pressure on a DE razor and try to maintain a blade angle of about 30 degrees to your skin.

Thank you for this.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Ha - I grow stubble until I get bored of it or annoyed by it, then I use clippers to get the stubble down to a mm or so (takes about 30 seconds), run an electric razor over that to get it down to a bare minimum (another 30 seconds) and finish it off with a very easy wet shave (less than 2 minutes). That is about 3 minutes of shaving per 7-10 days and I probably only spend £5 a year on disposable razors!

I'm not gob smacked by the coast of razor blades as I no longer shave.

However the price of 100g Nescafe instant coffee though has rocketed.

Meat and fish prices have had a sharp rise recently to.

I've been using the same Gillette Fusion blade for at least 3 months now, using an old pair of jeans to sharpen it as below:

You choose which type of shaving you prefer and which blades you use. It's a free market and there is oodles of competition. If anyone thinks they are being overcharged they know what to do.

DE shaver for me. Blades cost pennies and last ages.
