razor blades?

That's got to be unacceptable profiteering of the absolute worst kind? Gillette and Wilkinson's Sword, you are hearby charged with gross making-people-sick-with-outrageous-pricing. How do you plead?

PaulB...I got this thing last year called Razorpits that actually cleans razor blades so they are usable for a lot longer than normal. Its the same general idea as the old timer razor straps. Costs like 20 USD but it paid for itself in the first month. I dont have a stake in the company but Ive used 5 razor blades in 11 months of shaving every day. Amazon carries them.

I switched to Boots own brand about a year ago - Blade 3 - half the price and they seem to stay sharp longer. They do have a slightly different head angle that took a few shaves to get used to, but I never want to go back to the rip off prices of the big brands.

And whilst I'm at it, Face wash - £5 for a small tube. I used to use supermarket own brand, but they've disappeared off the shelves, clearly everyone gets a better profit margin off the named brands.

I find that the more expensive shaving gels clog up the blades. Cheapo foam is much better for me, as the blades stay sharper as they are not clogged up.

i've actually been after a straight razor for a while, decent ones start from a ton upwards tho, i also need a stropping belt.
combined with a hot shower and some king of shaves gel i reckon i could get my face so hareless i'd look like i'd got alopecia.

I use Gillette Platinum or Titanium ones or whatever they are these days and each one lasts for months.... shaving every day wears them out less than waiting even 2 or 3 days and then attacking the stubble.
Going back to old ones months later even sometimes gives a few days/weeks extra, plus I just use plain old Imperial Leather soap for a lather. Suppose it comes down to pain threshold! When I start getting the occasional nick I change the blade.

I used to use Gillette Mach 3 but got fed up with blade prices. Three weeks ago I saw a German brand of 5 blade razor in Lidl, G.Bellini Shark 2.0. They look like something from the 1970s but give a really close shave for less than £1 per blade. They feel completely different to use and I have no idea how long the blades will last. I just felt like boycotting Gillette. ( Sad or what...?.)

Use traditional double edged safety razor. Blades cost pennies in the shop and even less online.
I think I need to go this route, or at least give it a try.
Any recommendations on which brand to go for?

I've only used double edged safety blades for scratching off Rotring ink from tracing paper drawings... that's going back a few years!

Gillette fusion proglide, pack of 4 blades = £13.39p .. it was cheaper buying the whole thing to start with Gillette fusion razor + 1 spare blade + shaving gel + face wash + face moisturizer + toilet bag = £8
