The guy wearing the bubble wrap suit has a look that says in no uncertain terms "I regret the life choices that have led to this point"

I meant to ask @Pat "5mph" : what was the mini-track pump that you had on the Lochs and Glens trip?
Adam Savage?

I like it. Why not test it by rolling down Hardknott Pass in a few weeks?

It here! It here!

It transpires that the item I didn't recognise on the invoice "neukundengeschenk" is a mug ("new customer gift") and not "neukendengeschenk" ("f*cking gift")
Oh language, you cheeky thing.

The wonders of agglutinative languages^_^

The pedant in me feels obliged to point out that (at least to my knowledge) neuken is Dutch and not used in Germany. I could suggest a few German alternatives, but this is a family friendly forum and I don't want to get you into trouble...

Although I'm glad to be back in the ranks of the employed this working malarkey is getting in the way of my cycling time. After 7pm before I got home last night and at present I'm just about to leave Newcastle so it will about 9pm before I get home. Looking at the jobs I have on for Thursday and Friday I'll have driven about 1500 miles by Friday home time. Praise the Lord for the company van and fuel card.

I knew that neuken was Dutch (thanks to the wonderful expression "neuken in de keuken").
Google Translate told me that "neuken den geschenk" was German (but not neuken, oddly enough).

I've always found it curious that non-native English speakers seem to find picking up languages far easier than for native English speakers.

Is it down to cultural arrogance? Our education system? (I spent five years learning Italian and might just about be able to order an ice cream in Napoli.)
Is it systemic or is the language structured in a way that concepts in other languages don't translate well?

I ask because every German person (and most Spanish) I met in Tenerife could speak excellent English, and I deliberately stayed away from the English speaking parts.

That's because English is so easy compared to most languages - imo.
One word has many meanings in English, one does not need to learn too many words or how to conjugate them with verbs.

It was from the Edinburgh bike coop, their own make: a quick search tells me they don't do that model anymore, but they do this one instead.
I am surprised that the new one is so cheap, mine was 19.99, I remember I had to add some patches to get free delivery.

That's true, although you must find it quite tough when you have a thorough cough and are feeling rough while visiting Slough or you go out of the borough often enough. To help you plough on you could always cheer yourself up with cookie dough though.

Perfect, thanks! ^_^
