I was just thinking the same this morning. Feel like I'm working as hard as I did a couple of years ago when I started but the speed seems to say otherwise.I never did have one of those new fangled heart monitors, or a cadence sensor. So I was probably not worthy of Strava in the first place. Oh, and what is this "improvement" of which you speak? I'm going backwards!
I'm with you on the just relax and enjoy it thing though. Last few rides I haven't had the average speed showing on the garmin so I don't even know what it is until I download the ride. I think it encourages me to be more relaxed.

It is very easy to get hung up on figures, I like tracking where I've been and how far I went, speed and time I care a great deal less about
