As I'm looking at the Defy+ for my next upgrade, I've been doing some reading into the original - you know you can overclock the processor?!?! Fellow geeks will understand....

Yeah you can overclock most HTCs too. I've never had a speed problem with the Defy though and although I used overclocking software on my HTC Hero, I actually tended to use it to underclock the processor to improve battery life. Having read some reports of the Defy+, it's only the better battery that would tempt me to switch.

It's 1GB built into the phone, but it comes with a micro sd card (8Gb iirc). I have 3 x 16gb cards to swap between on my Desire, one full of music, two full of movies - try doing that on an iPhone! :-)

Oh dear, now you've got me thinking again when I thought I'd made my mind up

Bit old hat but started with the HTC Magic, and now have the Desire (yes not the most upto date version) but I think it's brill.

Open source all the way - don't like the tie in.

I got a Galaxy S2 after 4 years of iPhone ownership, (original one then a 3gs ) - I hated it after a week and went to back to my iPhone. I just couldn't get along with Android, the battery is worse than any phone I've ever used, (my 2 year old 3gs has better battery life and I have bluetooth, wi-fi and 3g turned on permanently!), and the Kies software for music transfer is diabolical. I gave it to Mrs S, she hated after a week too, so I flogged it on fleabay.

Mrs S is due an upgrade in January, and iPhone 5 should be out and well tested by then, that will be next upgrade

I have the Google Nexus One and would recommend android phones to pretty much anyone, you can have UI overlays such as Samsung's which make it similar to Iphone if you like that sort of thing, or you can have barebone android (or other third party builds such as Cyanogenmod, which I use) for the techy sorts.

The smart phone can stay in a bag, in my pocket. For phoning someone - just in-case my wheels explodes again ?

No more can my flash phone do a GARMIN'S job - OK - wrap your phone in a bag, then it might !

TTFN.

well there's ya problem, you've been "apple'd" you don't need kies to transfer files, just plug it in as a usb device and drop em on.
battery life on the original 2.2.1 software granted was not great, but 2.3.3 gingerbread is WAY better now.

That's a Microsoft Product and not a phone.

If people are having problems with battery life, I suggest getting an app called Advanced Task Killer, this kills programs recently opened or that run in the background, but work normally again when used the next time.

I'm due an upgrade next month, I currently have the Galaxy i7500 (one of the first ones with version 1.5 firmware), it has been a great phone, does everything I want it to do, so will probably go with the Galaxy S2 next, sure as hell don't want an iPhone....iPhone's are for iClones and iSheep.

ATK is a great app, however its met its match with Gingerbread, 2.3.3 is finally smart enough to manage apps properly. very soon 2.3.4 should be out too and there's rumours of it being even better on battery life.
tbh my sony ericsson w995 had a battery life of 4 days.
yup 4 whole days if i was careful, but it wasn't a smart phone with amoled touch screen and mahoosive processors  i do miss the battery life tbh but then i love the smartphone side of it.

Sorry but I find that ATK uses more battery as it's constantly running in the background. Just my tuppence from my own experience

Only if you add an additional memory card. With the standard internal 16gb this does not work. Mine was gingerbread, (stupid name!), and the battery was, as I say, appalingly bad, go figure.

These threads will always be like helmet debates imo. Some people like Android and hate iPhone, some people lke iPhones and don't like others. It will always be the same. I honestly think a lot of anti-appleites jump on the hate bandwagon simply because of their cost, whereas cost is not an issue with Android phones so perhaps the reasons for dis-liking them are more realistic reasons, I don't know?

Each to their own, go and try them out in the shops and see which you famcy. If you are not used to either os then you can make an unbiased judgement and good luck with that. I'll stick to Apple as I like it, whereas if I'd been using Android for several years instead I'd probably stick to that.
