I've recently taken a keen interest in cycling and as a result I've kinda become addicted to ordering shed loads of bike gear on line. The usual recipients of my midlife crisis stash of cash have been Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles.

Yesterday I received yet another box of stuff from Chain Reaction with a £10 off voucher enclosed. Today I received another box with some new road shoes and another £10 voucher.

The annoying thing is to benefit from this I've got to spend the vouchers within 2 weeks and spend over £75. As the contents of both my boxes were more than £75 each it's a bit of a bugger to say the least. And I'm a bit skint now.

My problems are mounting:-

1. I'm getting old
2. The kids have flown the nest
3. I'm doing more buying than biking
4. I look a pillock in lycra
5. The wife thinks I'm a pillock
6. Chain Reaction Cycles are now trying to mess with my head

Is there something wrong with me ?

I'm going with +1 to that, even though there's probably a significant risk of risk of that prompting someone to write "Wouldn't that be 2, 4, 5, 6".

1. I'm getting old : Dont worry about it. Only worry when your so old you can't mount the bike
2. The kids have flown the nest: Bonus. This means you should have more money for a £2000 carbon bike that you will look more silly on
3. I'm doing more buying than biking: It's the thought tat counts
4. I look a pillock in lycra:Maybe you should see your therapist ?
5. The wife thinks I'm a pillock: This is normal for a none cycling partner
6. Chain Reaction Cycles are now trying to mess with my head:Use your local bike shop. this way you have more chance of buying that £2000 carbon bike
Is there something wrong with me ? Yes

every-time i think ive overcome a problem and found a solution a new one that arises that i was previously unaware existed

recently its been lights ,

i swear i could give blackpool a run for its money but no single unit is good enough anymore so i am currently (its been two weeks now , no bull two weeks) deciding which magicshine fits my needs best , now in that time its ive noticed that magicshine have some new cree mitter thingy , so im convinced the world of bike tech in general is messing with my head

wacko.gif

im getting close to deciding which light now so i expect a breakthrough in technology as i order

How about offering the vouchers on the 'Excahnge/Free' forum in Classifieds.
A sort of paying it forward and helping someone spend their money instead of yours.

That's a great idea IMHO

Seriously i woudnt buy more stuff than you actually need and like a hideously spotty teenager you are probably far more aware of your own bad image than the peole around you so dont worry about it , or try and ride where there arnt lotys of people about.

That's a point - if anyone wants them, they are welcome. There is a different code on each of them so I'm not sure if that means they can only be used used exclusively on my account but if anyone wants them I'll even pay the postage. Don't forget as well, they are only valid for 2 weeks and it's over £75 spend per voucher. Bloody hell, I sound like I'm a rep for CRC.

OK, I've put them in classifieds under exchange/free.

There's 2 ways to look at this:

1. I'm saving someone £10 (pay it forward.....Cool)
2. I'm encouraging someone to spend money with those bar stewards at CRC who've cleaned me out and then done an "office joke" on me by sending 2 vouchers on the same day.

I don't think there is an issue with spending lots of money on something you enjoy. I am suffering from a serious case of de-motivation right now, I was ill last week and I just can't summon the enthusiasm to get on the bike, that's despite cleaning and prepping them ready to go. I can't say I haven't got the gear either, I have.

So I figured I need to do some retail therapy, only £50 and I think it's only going to be some new tyres for the MTB and maybe a new saddlebag which I actually need after my last one broke and I would like a gilet, but I find the new purchases re-ignite my passion once again for cycling.

Some people naturally just love cycling and everything about it, unfortunately I haven't got out of the mindset that I do it primarily to keep fit. I love participating in Audaxes and I positively look forward to them, but solo training runs - get me out of here!!!

BTW, I must be the only one whose wife thinks I look hot in my lycra!!!

Bordom mate, get into something more challenging. Build your bike from scratch or convert an old race bike to a single-speed. Something that means you can stil buy and lust over, but spend more time in the shed and less on the net.

Lycra shorts are definitevely not flattering. My biggest fear is to have a puncture in the middle of a busy street and having to walk through it in lycras. Actually happened yesterday but I had jeans on then . Lucky or what?
