And I've just made a vat of mince... figs, dates, cider, sultanas etc. Just got to make the pastry and then mince pie feast here we come....

I bought two jars of it last year, and I'm still using the stuff up now. I'll make my own next year. This year it's apple chutney and red onion marmalade.

Cor! I'm thinking a 'mince pie' made with red onion marmalade instead would be really nice! Served hot, with a nice big lump of Wensleydale....

With going to Mum's, I hadn't thought about decorating my flat, but I might have to put some tinsel up...

I've only had a tree here once, a smallish one in a pot. My friend helped me bring it back from the shop in his bike trailer, and it sat there upright all the way. Miraculously, it even still had some needles left after he decided to take the cobbled route to the house....

I generally enjoy the preparations in the kitchen (well mine ... more stressful trying to help out in someone else's kitchen) ... there is no fixed time to eat ... and if I forget to put something on ... well there is more than enough with the rest anyway. The only one who has ever given me stress in my kitchen is my brother-in-law ... came and sat in the kitchen to read his newspaper  now I didn't mind him reading it (elsewhere not in my way), wouldn't have minded him sitting there with a glass chatting ... but to simply get in my way .... ended up asking him to entertain my kids to get him out of the kitchen. He is very thick skinned so doesn't get any hints but he is nice - just couldn't be married to him!

One christmas my youngest sister's gay ex housemate came to stay and hogged the shower all the time and forgot to offer to help with any washing up or cooking....was almost amusing!

That's an amazing idea. I did just mean that I was going to make apple chutney and red onion marmalade, but can you imagine how good a little red onion marmalade pie would be? You could put cheese in it for handy portable cheese and red onion marmalade goodness.
