I know when I am wearing my black gloves at night I do wonder if drivers can see my hands, especially when they must see past the bright red lights on the back of my bike.

Anyone ever tried to see a gloved hand signal from behind a brightly lit bike? The talk of rear Dinottes' and such make me wonder if hand signals at night time can really be seen clearly. I know with only two Superflashes on my bike I can't make out the handlebars when looking from a few metres behind it in the dark on a moonless night.

Those thumb switch things have always worked well for mopeds and motorbikes, so in fact, I think drivers are actually very used to looking for them. The bright orange blinking kind of makes them hard to miss really. IMHO They have always failed to take off for bikes because they are cheap tat that breaks within days if not hours and also they need batteries, add weight, look horrible etc and so cyclists are used to carrying on the way they always have done.

I am all for ideas that make us stand out amongst the traffic in winter rush hour (+1 for eye contact) and thought this may have potential if the idea was executed well.

I always find that American right turn signal weird. No one would have a clue if you used that here in the UK!

I like the concept, but if I'm going to have indicators, would rather have them where drivers would naturally expect them to be, either side of my rear light perhaps, or either side of the saddle. Hell, if you want to be fancy, design those gloves to link up to them wirelessly and send a signal.

I just don't think those gloves will be any more effective that a normal glove with reflectors.
I like the concept too, I've often wanted indicators in the bar ends (most useful IMO as are the widest part of most bikes). Indicators could usefully supplement (rear check and) arm signal, as cyclists often need to return the arm to the handlebars during their manoevre. Thos Tacx things look interesting, I wonder whether they do something for flat bars :becool:.

You'd look like a dalek! Just carry a sink plunger on the handle bars, wear a head torch an a rain cape and the fancy dress will be complete.

would it not be better to have something reflective down your arm, not just your glove

the arm is larger and longer so more likely to be spotted?

Quite... a reflective stripe down the sleeve and a couple of reflective chevrons on the gloves and you've got a big glowing pointy arrow.

...although I'm still working on my reflective 'skeleton hands' gloves... which will look much cooler
