how will people opt out with just a username if it were to be one on here? & will families be consulted before complete strangers who simply happen to share a transport preference start muscling in on their rememberance?
I don't want my name on it.
Hopefully my name will never appear on it. The sentiment behind it is sound, and so long as its kept to the format as given in the opening post I don't see any problems with it.
As I said I hope my name never appears on it.

i don't think its going down too well, it wasn't meant to become a debate. Shaun can you delete thread please
Why not seek the views of those on here before admitting defeat. Whilst no-one wants their name to appear on it. The idea is sound. If you decide to leave it running, have all the posts after your opening one deleted. But include the picture idea of Pats. Names are soon forgotten & soon become just numbers, then memories. Memories tend to fade away. The Wall would see that they do not just become another name, number, memory.
Its a nice idea, given events of recent days. Will they still be remembered this time next year?

If you really want it deleting hit the report button.

its a nice sentiment but death is a very personal thing, I do worry that this could be seen as virtual rubbernecking.

it was meant with best intentions i just feel its sad that they become statistic. I'm not being funny when i say delete the thread, it just either needs to be a memorial wall or nothing at all. I think some will like the idea and some will oppose so I'll let Shaun decide if he wants to delete the posts to take it back to the original OP and start again ... Or wipe the whole thing.

And are we not already guitly of that part by virtue of the fact that we may post in Cyclist Down?
Yes, as are any number of other media reports at the time of the event, its a bit different posting it as a current affairs piece that is reflected elsewhere, to this eternal flame by total strangers idea though.

@buggi, A while back there appeared on here & other cycling sites, a tribute thread to one cyclist, the family & friends of that cyclist took some comfort in knowing that they'd not been forgotten or ignored.
I met them less than 1/2 dozen times, but they left a lasting impression on me. I know the same can be said of a few on here & elsewhere. Don't let names become numbers....

@buggi ,no need to delete the whole thing, but be prepared for people to post on it with opinions and debate. That will need reporting and deleting, but right now the number of cyclist deaths in the last few days has been so shocking that it may have started a wider debate, and as long as that raises public awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists and potentially prompts improvements in driver awareness training, infrastructure changes, and a change in the attitudes towards cyclists' safety by all sorts of other road users, the perhaps some benefit may be gained. In the meantime, I think the wall is a great idea, an expression of solidarity and respect. Yes they may be random strangers, but they were al fellow human beings and deserve our thoughts and contemplations.

The deceased families would ordinarily have a say on inclusion or otherwise on a memoriol I guess. That begs the question as to how they could on here?

I'm guessing that has 'management' implications for Shaun.

The idea is a wonderful one, I'm just thinking about it from the viewpoint of a berieved relative.

Agree with above, most would see it as respectfully and have no issue. However they should perhaps be consulted first??

It's not something I like to be honest.
I would also prefer that any names listed was ok'ed by the families concerned first. People deal with grief in different ways. Some families may not like the 'publicity', even if it's just on a humble forum.

Summary:
I think it is an awful idea!
