I managed to remove mine on Sunday. Free hub tool secured in place with QR skewer, chain wrench attached and held in place by a combination of my leg, a jemmy and a gap in my decking

Chuffed to nuts I managed to eventually get it off!

You don't need to tighten a lockring with any more torque than you close a kitchen tap. They can't unscrew in use (think about why they go click-click-click as you screw them home).

Thank you so much forall for the replies and yes I was a tad enthusiastic when I put it on I think, and no I don't remember greasing it
I refitted my vice onto a bench wide enough to hold the extractor and wheel horizontally without the garage wall getting in the way, bolted about 3ft of angle iron to the chain whip, left the wheel/hanging over a jar of diesel last night and it came off like a dream this morning!! Very happy, I bloody hate being outwitted by a lump of iron.

Mine did! I swapped a cassette and lost indexing within 4 miles. Closer examination showed the cassette wandering up and down the freehub. I get mine pretty tight these days and they come off OK with no extra leverage needed other than that given from the tools.
