It passes through the village of Whalley twice this Monday. https://www.ribblevalley.gov.uk/homepage/203/tour_of_britain They'll be coming down Accrington Road at 11.30 then going back up it at approx 2.30. I'm wondering if there'll be a lot there and will i get a good spot to watch them go by. I'm cycling there as it's only three miles from where i live. Have any of you seen the Tour of Britain before and will it be busy?

ive been the last two years, both times at the finish line which gets busy early, going to finish line tomorrow hopefully.

I went to watch it a couple of years ago when it cane through Gawsworth. I found a junction where I though they would have to slow down, I do when I approach it, so i could get some good photos. I was wrong. They flew past but then again they have the advantage of the roads being closed!
It wasn't busy but the waiting around to see them flash by is a bit tedious. I was going to cycle to Leek to watch them pass through next Friday but decided to play golf instead.

I've thought about heading to Colne to see the finish but like you say it'll be busy early on and i'm not into big crowds. I'm tempted to watch the start at 11am in Clitheroe then peg it through the village of Barrow to get to Whalley in about 15 minutes while the racers are climbing Pendle Hill. Maybe i wont be the only one with that idea in mind and there'll be a convoy/peloton of cyclists dashing from Clitheroe to Whalley?:okay:

Wednesday's finish is on the main street in Blyth. I think I'd better turn up for a look

I've seen them come through this way twice before. It wasn't desperately busy those times but I'm expecting bigger crowds this time for the finish.

I've see the last 2 Tours when it came near my home. There were plenty of spectators but no problem in getting a ringside seat. I can report that Mr Wiggins had not had a shave that morning in Whitchurch in 2013. I was that close. You'll not have a problem out on the route.

They passed the Tesco in Whitchurch - about 30 mins before the peloton passed a lady on a shopping bike, complete with groceries in the wicker basket, came out of Tescos and up the hill. She got a rousing chorus of support! Magic. Not sure she knew what was going on - looked a bit non-plussed!

I went to see it today, it was a spectacular event! The cavalcade of team cars the police bikes then the peloton was something you just can't appreciate when you watch it on the telly! Ok they've all passed bar the stragglers,in about 40 seconds but it was exciting to say the least. The village was packed out with it being a beautiful day which added to the event. I went home then went back 3 hours later to watch them come back up the hill.
