I'm not into motorbikes, but I do like this one!

At the time BMW wanted to attract sports bike riders over to the GS range so they made the 1200 a lot higher revving, but in doing so it lost a lot of its appeal and low down grunt. That was one thing I liked about the 1150 was its ability to pick up speed was very low revs, especially when either fully loaded or two up.
Don't get me wrong, I sort of liked the 1200 but it was a completely different beast to the outgoing 1150. Before the Adventure I had the normal 1150, did 18,000 mile on that in its first year! Probably the best machine I have ever owned to be honest.

That's useful to know as I had quite fancied a GS albeit not sure I quite want to spend that much money for a new one and for the price of a significantly used one I could get a newish summat else. My Mrs doesn't like them for some reason either, likely aesthetics

I've never ridden one but when my own bike was at the menders I did get a loaner Tiger, which I didn't much care for, though did quite like the KTM equivalent which they gave me on another occasion

I rather fancy a Guzzi (be it a tourer or a GS style machine) but have never ridden one, apart from pillion on a V50 40+ years ago

There are techniques to pick up bikes when they are dropped (lifting backwards with your legs). If anything, a Goldwing would not fall as far due to the engine guards and footpegs etc. A "naked" bike that weighs 220kgs would argubaly be harder, as they tend to fall over flat

My mate Graham dropped his FJ1200, that was a begger to pick up
