I think thats why the motons are giving me a wide berth, nutter who looks like hes talking to himself riding at an akward angle when its raining and windy. I'll be glad when the playpen weather goes and i can get some decent miles in not just the commute, went on a 14 mile round shopping trip the other day, 7 miles going against the wind methinks i'll have the wind behind me coming home, do the shopping and you've all guessed it, the bloody wind changed direction [got some wierd looks cycling down the thames path from people, can't understand why i was only complaing to the elements], perhaps I'll end up like scary woman from London and can be nutty man from Surrey [now wheres my old american football helmet ].

I don't usually ride in the rain if I can help it. But yesterday I did a 118 mile charity ride and half of it was in the pouring rain. After accepting that it was raining and there wasn't anything I could do but keep the pedals turning, it became strangely enjoyable. After all you can only get so wet and my skin is pretty waterproof anyways.

I obviously went through some kind of strange time warp yesterday. I set off in the middle of May and, judging by the weather, ended up in the middle of December...

It's only when you start cycling regularly that you realise how truly awful the weather in this country really is.

I started cycling regularly again two years ago and, barring the odd handfull of nice days here and there, it just seems to have done nothing but P**s down with rain ever since. I'm so truly fed up with it that, if I were a bit younger and less settled I'd seriously think about emigrating

Well I'm with the fair weather cyclists. I cycle to enjoy it so if it's p*ssing down and blowing I won't go out. I have a bike on a turbo trainer which is probably just as much misery but at least I don't miss the cricket/cycling/rugby on the TV.

It's the wind that is really annoying at the moment (add me to the list of wind cursers) and stopping me going out. I once put the bike in the back of the car when visiting my parents as the route back was all with a 20-30mph tailwind. I was flying down a very big hill when I turned a corner and the wind started to come from the side. The bike started wobbling quickly from side to side, so I squeezed the brakes, which caused the bike to wobble even more. Right I thought, I'm coming off here. Somehow I managed to keep it upright and scrub off enough speed to stop it wobbling. My comp said I was doing nearly 40 mph, so I would have been a right mess.

Not liked wind since.

I admit this year seems to have been duller, drier (not today or this weekend), and generally windier than last year so far. Where is the still sunshine days of shorts and strappy tops ... I'm sure I was wearing those by this time last year.

I'm very ashamed that I only commute by bike in the summer, I think I may have to toughen up and go all the way into the winter

I wish I could cast an incantation to turn the wind into a physical being so I could punch it square in the nutts.

I can deal with the wind usually but it's this blustery twisting wind that's draining me, cadence goes up, cadence goes down, drop a gear to make things easier then the wind drops and you're over spinning, back up a gear and then it comes on strong again.

I'm almost thankful when one of the train crossings is down so I can stop, pant, soak up the sweat and get ready for round 2.

Also training about the wind... but training for a 75m charity ride and haven't done that distance before. So I got back from work, got changed and took the bike out... turns out it wasn't that bad . . . on that day.

You'll all be glad to hear then that a special weather report this morning predicted this summer to be in the high 30's.

This report was issued by the leading meterological channel GMTV:smile:

Has anyone noticed this?

I check the BBC website for the weather every day so I can seewhat the weather has in store for me if I decide to go out for a ride.
Three weeks ago I wanted to go pony trekking - the beeb said light showers all day, METCHECK said sunny all day - that days weather? Bright ALL day.
Two weeks ago I cycled forty miles in blistering heat forecast by Metcheck. What did the BBC predict? Windy and wet.

And weekend past?! The BBC informed me that it would be a little windy and wet, so I rushed to get my gear ready. I got absolutely drenched and was terrified of the thunder and lightening!:biggrin:

Take it from me folks - The BBC are playing with our heads and patience.

In Metcheck I trust

I have to say I sympathise with irish celtie. I got a new bike a couple of weeks ago - it's got a grand total of four rides in its wheels. The rain stopped me using it on a couple of clubruns, flooding cancelled the first race it was supposed to be used in. Ridiculous.

I have however been using the other bikes to get the miles in (mostly commuting) but I really want to be getting out there on the beautiful machine. Actually, I did the club '25' on it this evening and it turns out that it's an instrument of torture (though I suspect that is just a reflection of my feelings towards time trials).

Don't know...I have found the doom and gloom weather predicted by the bbc recently scaringly accurate - the rain even arrived at the exact hour they expected it to start! If I want a positive forecast, I tend to look at ukweather.com (although it is usually wrong). Admittedly, the beeb did get it mixed up for the first time in ages this week - we got all the heavy rain that was supposed to arrive today yesterday instead (meaning 2 soakings for me), today, when I was on the bus anyway, was sunny!
