I'm fed up with this weather

I've had some of my best MTB night rides when it's been sub-zero, snow on the ground and a bright moon. Unfortunately when it gets really cold sometimes the derailleur cables can freeze if there's any damp in them. In warmer conditions the snow can clog your SPDs and freeze into a lump of ice.

However after years of night and day rides in the rain I've decided to stick to dry weather in future. I certainly don't go out on the road bike in the wet.

I like to cycle when it is at least 30c. Melting tar can be a problem on badly surfaced roads and it's a bit of a trick finding enough water on route. Ditto shade when climbing. The hottest day was 42c when it was like riding toward the blast from a hairdrier.

I am off out for a training ride in about an hour - It is drizzling, blowy and the temperature can not make up its' mind. Still I'm looking forward to the route so that should make up for it.

In Wales you can not be a fair weather cyclist.

Finished work 0730 in peeing down rain. My mate offered me a lift but I declined the kind offer until I noticed I had yet another p£$%$&**.

Not even going to fix it now until the new tyres arrive. 3 in a week is taking the pi$$ grrrr

I go out in all weathers. no matter what, I cycle to work about 99% of the time.
However I only go out at the weekend if it's looking reasonable out...

No point forcing myself - got to enjoy it haven't ya!

Last year it seemed to rain whenever I went out, this year so far its the wind. I still tend to go out in most weather though. I find it toughens you up, and makes those warm and still days (hmm, can't remember the last one of those!) all the more enjoyable. In saying that, I can recommend NOT cycling on ice!! I fell off my bike cycling to work just after christmas and have only in the last month fully recovered. My problem is I hate paying for taxis....

Thanks for the replys folks. Maybe i'm just a fair weather rider- i dont think i'll enjoy it in the wind and the rain. Still if this weather keeps up i'll not have a choice. Since spending 800 quid on the bike i've since spent a futher 500 odd quid on acessories which dont include weatherproofs. Should i invest in some? If so what? I have a few charity rides coming up and i'll need to get some training in rain hail or shine.

when it rains most of the "muck" comes up at you from the road so i think a set of mudguards is a must. mine came off a couple of months back for the "Dry season" but it only takes a few minuets to re-fit them. i think I'm going to get some of those quick release ones for next year.

over shoes and a light weight rain coat that you can fit in your jersey pocket are also worth having

Phew, glad it's not just me that does that!

I've not been out on my bike as much as I'd like in the past wee while, and because of the wind, when I do go out I don't go very far - I feel as if I'm forever cycling into a headwind....

A couple of months ago I was starting to feel as I'd made some decent progress as I'd started doing a nice wee 22 mile circular route at the weekends, but a spell of not feeling great for a couple of weeks and then this blustery wind has me struggling all over again.

I cycled a fair bit through the winter, but right now, all I can say is roll on the summer!

well i've just got back in from my ride and i had constant drizzle but halfway round it absolutely pee'd it down for about 5 minutes

ruined a perfectly good pair of white socks but I'm really glad i went out.

i've managed 76 miles this weekend (15 fri, 31 sat and 30 sun), OK thats not a huge amount but it's good going for me and my legs have been strong and consistent so I'm really happy

this may sound like a load of bull but i really believe that a huge part of how you ride is down to your state of mind. there's one hill on my normal route that i really hate, it's not so steep but the road is real bumpy, you know, that sort of washboard bumpy that just vibrates the bike to death. i really dread riding up that hill
i often ride up much steeper and longer hills and have no problem with them. i've got to learn to love that hill.

you need to learn to accept the weather, you can't change it ;)
