whats actually putting you off, rain or wind ???

personaly i find a bit of wind is better than still dead air, of course you don't want it so bad that you get swept into the road.

rain is something you just have to put up with. get the right gear to keep you warm and dry and things should be OK ;)

ooh, one thing... be careful on the corners when the weather is wet after a long dry spell ;)

just like when your driving a car, things get surprisingly slippy

nothing wrong with the weather but I sometimes wear the wrong clothes ;)

tonight's commute home in the pouring rain was actually very exhilarating in a masochistic sort of way....

Go for it! If its a bit of a rain shower don't let that put you off. I really enjoy riding in the rain! Just get a waterproof/resistant top and you're laughing

I've been working at home all week, had only done 12 miles Mon/Tues/Weds. got out for 20 miles yesterday. Today went out at lunchtime and did 20 miles, rain started 3 miles in, got soaked to the skin, but wasn't too windy. Went back out tonight intending on 30 miles(I do a 10 mile loop), rain coupled with wind drove me homewards after 20 miles. Was fun but the wind got up enough to push me off line at times. Decided to be safe as it was getting pretty slippy as well.

I've had a couple of homeward commutes where I've been so wet I just strip off in the garage. The rain doesn't bother me much, but the wind can be an issue.

given my other hobby (one of several) is reffing rugby union I sometimes think the average cyclist is a somewhat lily livered type. the only thing that stops us playing rugby is frozen ground, and in theory "standing water" though most turn a blind eye. I've never been as cold on a bike as I have been on a rugby pitch.

There were times tonight when the wind was whipping the rain into my face that I was actually shouting at the weather to go away. Side winds can be nasty on my route. Rain OK, Wind less OK, rain + wind not OK

Ah, I played rugby from mini's, under 9's, up until my late 20's, can remember matches where the cold was a problem to start, but soon warmed up. Whereas my first ever full commute was on the coldest day recorded, just lucky I guess. I wasn't best kitted out at that point, didn't know it was possible for me to think about crying over my cold feet, I nearly did. It was probably beyond foolish as my feet got even sorer as they thawed out, lucky to avoid frostbite.

Ive been very cold before. I once had my bottle freeze, had ice form on my helmet and on my clothes, and on my buff(had it pulled up over my head) i had ice forming when my breath was going onto it.
