First let us look at the title of the OP, not my words that is for sure. Now hopefully after this extremely poor showing of basic mechanical skills you will learn to take your time and think the job through properly.

Now of course on most rear mechs if you had not run the chain through them you could have dismantled the cage and reassembled with the chain in place, simple when you know how.

I stand by my first post on this subject.

Well I for one could not disagree more. The OP recognised his mistake and took corrective action. He has learned the art of chain splitting (far more useful in the wild than taking a rear mech apart in my experience) and most importantly he has shown the ability to problem solve. Kudos to him.

So when his brakes fail going down a big hill he will know what he may have done wrong. Hmmm! maybe a bit late. Fitting a chain wrong is one thing, not knowing one's technical abilities is another.

I am not on the forum to get people to agree or disagree for that matter, hopefully some of my posts may get people to think harder about their actions though.

I am purely concerned about the persons well being, if I have hurt his feelings in the process then I apologise, my limited educations prevents me from writing any different from the way I do.

Odd. You write in a concise and clear manner. Your spelling is spot on and you have no trouble convaying your message. Why not offer some pointers instead of trying to putting the OP off? I'm sure you have a lot of knowledge to share.

Expelled from school at 15, or 40 or years ago means my education was very limited, add to that a totally misspent youth and married with kids at 18. Yep! born thick and staying thick that is me, mind you do not tel my customers and staff as I have convinced them otherwise. Mind you I am still married to the same girl and the kids are a credit so maybe I have done something correctly.

As you may notice most of my posts generate discussion, I take a lot of flak but the topic gets discussed. Far be it for me to say they did great, when in truth the outcome was lucky at best. Surely it is always best to say or write exactly how we feel rather than make up a pack of lies.

Hopefully we are all grown up on here and can take some criticism, it is after all real life.

Treat them mean and keep them keen.
