Why do you not speak English properly ?

Americans are probably speaking the original English, 'fall' instead of 'autumn' (etc).
We're the ones who aren't speaking it properly
I've heard this touted before - the American speak a version less evolved from the 17th century than we use in the UK. A classic example being the use of "gotten" - where we (UK) tend to consider it either American or archaic, whereas it's used more contemporarily in the US.

I've heard it said that though we think of Laurence Olivier and the like as sounding Shakespearian, Shakespeare's actors (and more generally, contemporaries) spoke with an accent that survives truest among Appalachian hillbillies. To be or not to be, y'all.

I heard that certain passages in Shakespeare only rhyme if they are read in a Birmingham accent.

We all know not to mix spots and stripes, yet thqts what the US flag does. Have you not considered a nice chequered affair, or perhaps an AR15 silhouette on a target background?
