Having just done a 4th cat race yesterday, I have lots of respect for the 4th cat riders at the competitive end of the field. I think I was very 5th cat!

I say hello to anyone who I see on a bike. Why not?

Come to think of it I say hello to people on horses if its quiet etc and those walking if I happen to be going slow enough (as is usually the case)
Usually only if it's a narrow lane and so on. I mean in the High Street it would be daft saying hello to everyone.
Almost always they smile and reply. Maybe it's just people round here.
Never hurts to spread a little goodwill.

Now and again I get blanked but so what, as has been said... 'their problem'.

Yesterday's ride was sprinkled with 'good mornings' - the Viyella shirt and camel coats responded. Children joined in. There was a Terry Thomas "Well....hello.." moment in the posh bar and we were positively encouraged to talk as we passed the horses as they would "think it strange if no-one was talking" and react badly.
No coincidence then that the riders were female...::biggrin:

that's me, sometimes it's only a grunt due to lack of puff, but I think it comes across ok

I'll always try to say a morning/afternoon/evening/watch where you're going you fool! whenever possible. Sometimes there's so many fellow cyclists about you can't keep up.

Though when we pass any "pleasant in appearance ladies" there's a distinctly Leslie Phillips "Hhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllloooooooooo"!

Naar he wasn't happy at all! Not sure it makes any difference but he had shaved legs...he would have been fine had he just said hello, not swept past us tutting.
It was yesterday late morning, Ansty, Leics

Kirstie I am in the same area, so if I get passed by a group of girls going hell for leather I know who it is.

Pick your races and you'll get 10 points easily enough. Start of the season now and everybody wants to play. It will settle down.

I don't really care whether people say hello to me or not. I might give a nod if I see someone in time, but I might not. After all, I don't flash my headlights at every other lorry driver I see just because they happen to be using the same transport mode as me ... why should it be any different for bikes?
