I had already been planning very local little routes. If you are going stir crazy and want to see some tough Yorkshire road climbs, why not spend half an hour doing a virtual tour*** of them on Streetview (I have linked to the foot of each climb)!
Nearby
Centre Vale park in Todmorden is fantastic for walking. The park itself is great but there is also a lovely wooded hillside rising up behind it with a network of criss-crossing paths. Normally, I would suggest that nipping up/down/round those paths on a cyclocross/gravel/mountain bike would be fun but I suspect that there will be a lot of people walking dogs there so hard to keep your distance. Another time would be better!
2 km up and down the A646 or A6033 wouldn't be brilliant but there are some very tough (15-20%) climbs away from the main roads that I could tackle for a quick dose of cycling pain.
2 kms would get me to Sourhall up the vicious
Ridge Rd/Doghouse Ln climb or up the slightly easier
Ewood Ln/Sigget Ln climb. I would have to turn round and go back to stick within 2 kms but if I cadged a cheeky 0.8 km extension then a 3rd option would be within range - the
Sourhall Rd climb up from Bacup Rd. There is a 4th way up to Sourhall which I like to ride (Carr Rd from Portsmouth), but that would take me over 4 km from home so perhaps a bit
too cheeky in this context!
If allowed that extra 0.8 kms then I would also have 3 possible climbs up to the Shepherd's Rest above Lumbutts - up
Shaw Wood Rd with hairpin right up New Rd and on through Mankinholes, up
Woodhouse Rd through Lumbutts, or ride to Walsden first then come back along Hollins Rd and climb
Lumbutts Rd.
A third route would be to climb
Cross Stone Rd from the A646 on the eastern fringes of Todmorden. It is a very tough little climb up to the hamlet of Cross Stone. From there, to stick within the 2 km limit I would turn left up
Hey Head Ln past Todmorden golf club. That road continues to climb steeply up to Keelham Heights at 2 kms. A 0.8 km extension would have allowed me to stick on Cross Stone Rd as it levels off at Cross Stone and continue along that to Great House Rd until it kicks steeply up
Crossley New Rd towards Great Rock. I could then turn left and go up to Keelham Heights.
*** If you fancy suffering on some of these climbs on a post-COVID forum ride, I will organise one for you!
