Sorry, I never really learned grammar, I just English like what she is spoke...;)

My feeling is that, for me at least, there are three levels of cost. Cheap and nasty, Good value, and way over the odds.

Universal definitions:
Cheap and nasty: Anything costing less than my bicycle.
Good value: My bicycle
Way over the odds: Anything costing more than my bicycle.

Whether you've spent £30 or £30,000 this tends to be true or true-ish.

I am kinda building my dream bike right now - if money was no object it might have SuperRecord instead of Ultegra, and I would replace all my alloy tubular wheelsets with Enve 50mm carbon rims built on Chris King hubs, but otherwise it would be pretty much like this:

This frame http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/products/crosslight/c-six-2
CX-70 chainset and front mech
Ultegra STIs and rear mech
Avid Shorty Ultimate brakes
Chris King HTII BB
3TTT Arx stem
3TTT Ergoterra CX bars
3TTT Dorico seatpost
Ritchey WCS Streem Carbon saddle

Budget without wheels cca £2 500

This is going to be my number one race bike for many many years

Can't wait

I've already got a 'super bike' although 20 years old - was top spec then - been quite good value.

Now the choice would be a C59 with Super Record EPS

More realistically a Cinelli Strato with Super record - £5k ish !

My wife thinks my £300 Carrera Virtuoso is an expensive bike. I'm screwed.

It doesn't matter though, 'cause my motto is "Don't buy upgrades, struggle up minor climbs."

The Serotta Mei Vici frameset is about £7500 and I'm sure you could easily double that with top end components. Wouldn't be my idea of a dream bike though.
