We have to be careful when proficient in a martial arts assuming you can apply it in a street situation that you don't get nicked for going to far.

Friend of mine is a black belt in judo or whatever it is called nowadays. He took the train to Leeds where he belongs and got mugged by 3 blokes as he left the station. When the police arrived they congratulated him and said it was the first time they had to get an ambulance for the muggers.
They then apologised and charged him with GBH.
So far as I remember he got off with a caution when it came to court.

Where I live there has been a spate of thefts from Wenzels and Gregg's bakers, not the most expensive around, with groups nicking the sandwiches and rolls from the shelves.
A bloke told me the other day that he was in Accrington Greggs when he saw a 'student type' pocketing some sandwiches. The lad knew he'd been spotted and said to the bloke "You won't say anything will you"? The bloke told me he kind of felt sorry for the thief, as he was quite apologetic and seemed worried about being spotted. He said if the thief had acted cocky, even threatening he would've literally collared him and phoned 101. Instead he just said "say anything about what"? and left it. He then said he was glad the lad didn't so anything to make him phone 101, as he would've been there at closing time waiting to get an answer from the useless 101 service!

And that's one reason why shoplifting is as bad as it is these days.
