Solo ride Saturday and I joined a chap for a couple of miles ,he was on a £10k pinarello f12 and I'm on my 8 year old boardman.he was coasting and I was full gas!

i remember a gcn article where one of the ex pro presenters compared his old race bike to a modern canyon 2-3 kn/h faster average on a loop for the same power output .
and yes hes probably fitter too

I found losing 10kg off myself made the bike go faster. It was also cheaper than messing with the bike.

I find along with that, the more I cycle the better I get at it.

The club was active on a Saturday, I changed my shift pattern made it hard for me so I tried to change my routine to fit in more.i think there a little t of other things and a couple of people have already said they would be interested in running the club.
Obviously winter is a hard time to get meaningful groups with such a range of riders we have

Looks like a few like minded individuals are planning a non formal group ride via whats app which maybe better as the mixed ability groups have never worked and i have been invited to the channel

Seems a bit of a shame if only people-products sold by Nerd Lord Zuck's WhatsApp are involved.

Sadly you're spot on with this. In my club it's proved impossible to get people to understand and appreciate the importance of good communication. More and more members chat with their friends and make "private" arrangements via WhatsApp and/or Messenger. The chat may well be about a club ride/event which is fine. The difficulty is with private chat other members have less chance of knowing what's happening and getting involved. Those people wander away.

I belong to three Messenger and one WhatsApp group for mid-week, Monday to Friday, rides. The communication works very well, everyone is aware of times, meet points, routes etc. Everyone belongs to the club but the club has proved unable to instill this type of communication across the membership.

The consequences are declining membership, lower ride attendance and semi-private splinter groups.
