RIP

Probably could be repaired but would cost more than it's worth by the time you've paid for a respray afterwards.

Tempting as a new carbon frame is ;) unfortunately funds are extremely tight at the moment. However, rumours on the internet suggest that Giants frame warranty may be 5 Years? I'm investigating further...

Angelfishsolo, I've no idea how it happened, I just noticed it. I assume it's just a stress fracture from bumping over Kent's dodgy road surfaces for the last 4 Years.

i have a giant tcx1 and i thought the frame and forks had a lifetime warranty, i'm going to dig out the paperwork. i think you'll get a new frame from them as long as it's not crash damage. try ringing where you bought it from.

How much seatpost do you have inside the frame? Min insertion marked on seatpost doesnt equal minimum insertion required by the frame. I'd double check that you have enough seatpost in the frame, if not, the warranty is useless.

The seatpost min insertion, as a general rule should be at least below the top tubes bottom surface, but this varies from frame to frame.

Could be just an unfortunate event, but it could be caused by seat post not being inserted far enough.

A lifetime warranty on the frame then of it's yours from new? Nice one

i agree that with your point, but i don't think it is the problem here, if you goto the bottom of the page i linked to, there is a recall link. one of the recall problems looks very very similar to the op's failure. hopefully giant won't argue and replace it.

when my scott mtb cf frame snapped, the lbs rang the uk rep and the rep took the word of the lbs and sent out a new frame.

Don't know about Giants warranty, but specialized have a lifetime one on theirs - Had a crack in the headtube of a 8 year old entry level Allez a few months back - took it into the shop, who said no problem, they'd replace it - ended up with a frame from an allez comp (albeit in last year's colour). So hope they do have a warranty that'll cover you - good luck.

If not check the likes of planet x or ribble for frames - you already have the main bits so a rebuild won't be too expensive (if you DIY).

Quick look on the interweb, (and as pointed out in posts above duh) few folks seem to say Giant has a lifetime guarantee on the frame - can't vouch for this - you need to be the original owner with the reciept tho apparently.

Many thanks all, all your help is appreciated.

bromptonfb, that's fantastic, thanks for posting that, I spent ages searching and just could not find that information!

Giant state that in the first instance you need to contact the retailer, so I've emailed them to see what they say.
The seatpost is definitely below the minimum insertion level, from what Googling I've done, it does seem that this exact fault is far from uncommon.

I'll keep you all posted

Warranty innit.

Even if it's out of manufacturers warranty I'd be extremely confident that the 'fit for purpose' bit of the sale of goods act requires that a bicycle frame should last longer than four years.
