I also do not leave my helmet with the bike. I find it very useful upturned as a receptacle to carry my gloves, hat, keys, pass, lights, etc. from bike to office and office to bike. They are light and easy to carry and do not necessarily need to be stored with the bike tbh. Now if you were designing a lock for lights that would probably be more useful to me.

Plus everyone asks you "Ooo Have you cycled in" when you walk round with your helmet !

Hello! My name is Ben Staples and I am a student doing an A level project involving designing and manufacturing a locking device so that the bicycle helmet can be locked to the bike when not in use. If a few people could answer the following questions it would be much appreciated and will help me design a product that will meet cyclists desires;

welcome to the forums Ben.
I think your idea of designing something for cyclists is an excellent one however I do share others views that you are rather putting the cart before the horse.

Its usual for designers to research their intended product and target market first before deciding on what to design. Its an essential part of the design process. However given that you have chosen to design a helmet lock I would strongly suggest that you go to a large bicycle store and look at lots of helmets.

I suspect you will find that the enormous variety of syles will present a problem finding a universal solution other than a simple thin wire type lock
