"Young and Ex-whippet"
Every so often I get some painful aching in my lower back and feet.

My mother used to massage my feet which made everything better. However, I want to ease the pain in my lower back. It really aches when I am out after only 15 miles or so. I stretch before I go out but a massage is really what I need.

Can someone recommend a remedy please?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Assuming your bike fit is ok i would look at some stretching and core exercises, a weak core and really tight hamstrings can cause back pain.
