It staggers me how few cars of that era you see on the roads today.
I was overtaken, yes overtaken, by an Allegro on the A24 yesterday, she was smoking like a good un.

Damn right, Cortinas, Capris, (we know that all the 2 door Escorts were destroyed by rallying), Classic Capris, Marinas yeeeuk, All agros, Austin 1100 and 1300s, Land Crabs all the appaling Riley, Vanden Plas, Wolsley derivatives, all those loverly Renaults; 4s, 5s, 12s, 17s, Dauphines, Fiat 500s 600s, Mirafioris, X19s, Alfa Suds, Guilias, Simcas, It's a crying shame. A testament to the build quality of the Morris Minor that there are so many still on the road.

BTW you don't have to take the battery out of the car to charge it, just disconnecting the leads should be sufficient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mk.1 capri's were definitely the best looking!- i like the 3 litre with the bonnet bulges and the "race" mirrors, it was designerd to be the british equivalent to the mustang, was based on the mach1 model... nice..

Needed to bring my Capri in to work today as I'm heading off out straight after work.

I only get to drive it every couple of weeks but I love driving that car and I'm not afraid to say so.

And I don't care what anyone says about that:becool:

Brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.

I visited a place last week that had 3x Capri's in the front garden !;)
They are such a rare sight these days that I was a bit takenaback

Love my car too. I have a 20 year old sports car and it sure puts a grin on my chops when I take her out for a spin

Whenever I go out on the main roads I always see an old citroen 2cv somewhere, faded, battered but still running..

On the country roads I rarely see any cars at all these days.

Got the bugger running tonight thank F. Shall discover soon enough if the battery is F'd or not.

if it doesn't remain fully charged, it could now be the battery or the alternator.

if it doesn't remain fully charged, ask for further help (i'll happily talk you through it) it'd be a shame to buy a new battery only to find that you didn't need one as you've shafted the alternator internals

let us know what happens:smile:

Sokay, jumped it from Her Focus last night, ran it for half an hour and it's all hunky dory. Started first time this morning.

However, the clutch is now playing silly buggers, a couple of times today the pedal lost all resistance and wouldn't disengage.
The ignition switch desperately needs a rewire, I have to push the wires in from behind as I turn the key.
The battery has gone in the remote key fob.
My off-side fog lamp is half full of water.
The heater doesn't function.
The screen de-mister doesn't blow.
The seal is falling out of the sun roof.
A rear bulb needs replacing.
The CD player buttons don't do anything half the time but the radio has started working for the first time since I've owned the car. Which is nice.
The paint is flaking off the rear spoiler like it's going out of fashion.
There's a new ticking noise coming from under the bonnet.
It needs new tyres on the back.
The bonnet which was resprayed two years ago is turning pink.
Oh and the wiring for the head lights is all fukced up so I have to drive about with my hi-beams on if I'm to see anything at night. No one ever flashes me so I assume they ain't dazzling thankfully.

Aside from that it's loverly.

I think design wise the MkI was the best - classic style that was messed up on the facelift (Was that the MkII?)
I had the later hatchback one with big square lights. Think it was 2 Litre. Electric Blue with a black vynil roof and a speedo!

I loved that car! Problably today best to go for the very late ones, with the 4 round lights.

I sold it and got a Granada - the one before they went boxy with a black panel on the back. Well actually it was the cheapo version of the same car that they called a Consul but I sprayed it up and re badged it as a Granada. It was good at the time.

Watch it sonny! ;)

I had a Mk 1 Facelift, '74 1.6 in LeMans green with a black vinyl roof. Best looking of all the Capris.

Reminds me of that old chestnut

Q) What is the difference between a Capri and a Hedgehog ?

That's what my Dad had. It was quick and fast too so long as it was in a straight line.
