This might seem a long shot but I once had a 'click while peddling' that was caused by an over tight bottle cage bolt. Drove me crazy for months. When I loosened it there was a loud click..then problem solved.

Worth a shot.

Nope just loose.

However although that was obviously a problem, fixing it hasn't fixed the clicking. Running out of ideas now.

What are pinch bolts? The ones I replaced are the ones that bind the chain rings to the crankarm

Try a spacer...

A spacer wouldn't explain a problem that hasn't been there for years and is now suddenly there. But thanks for your help!!

Right I've now cleaned the front stem plate. I also managed to get a few more turns out of a couple of the chainring bolts (I'm always scared of breaking them!!!). Unfortunately I'm now at the stage where I daren't take it out as if it still clicks I'll be gutted. I'll now wait till Monday morning. Anyway work beckons!!

I mean the bolts that hold the crankarm onto the axle. See the first photo of this explanation. Although as I said above, it's only applicable if you have Hollowtech II.

Often have this problem through our workshop! People will swear it is bb/crank/pedal problem. More often than not it is cured by removing the front plate stem bolts. cleaning the crap out, grease them, refit and torque up. I know it sounds unlikely and many customers don't believe me but when you are rding you are actually pulling on the bars a lot.

The important bit here is the grease on the bolts as it's them wot cause the creak/click noise. Anyway lets hope you've got it this time....
This may sound like a silly question, but have you tried wearing a different pair of shoes?
At the moment nothing is a silly question. No I haven't but I have ridden a different bike with the same shoes and no issue.

Here for rides.
GT 85 or a teflon dry lube on the cleat mechanism make any difference?
Are the pedal threads greased and torqued?

Pedal threads were regreased after I'd tried different pedals on it

If I can be convinced the Merlin Single Malt will fit me, the Giant is being retired.
